Oh Stuey Speed. The funniest man whoever drew breath. My memory of completing this record was him carrying me like a sack of mashed potatoes the length of Brunswick Street Fitzroy to let me “convalesce”. His dextrous, propulsive playing pushes all these songs to where they could be. All were written in the bewilderment of families cleaving and leaving, of where to find joy in an odd despair. And together with Ian Kitney and Shane O’Mara i think we got there. What a fruggin band. Duetting with Lisa Miller and Rebecca Barnard. Nah, despair wan’t even in the suburb (Yarraville to be precise) ... it was just joy. Please enjoy. TR
(Gene Simmons did hear “Letter To Gene” and wrote to me afterward very politely. Come to a show and i’ll tell ya the story).
